Adlair

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The approach

What is Adlerian psychology?

The approach of Alfred Adler (1870-1937), a Viennese physician and contemporary of Freud, whose circle he left in 1911. It looks at the goal rather than the cause: what matters is not what happened to you, but the use you make of it now. It argues for horizontal relationships — neither above nor below — and for encouragement over judgement.

Do I need to have read The Courage to Be Disliked to use Adlair?

No. The app assumes no prior knowledge: it offers gestures, not a theory. The guides on this site explain the ideas for anyone who wants to go further.

Is Adlair a replacement for therapy?

No, and it is not meant to be. Adlair is a journalling and habit tool inspired by a philosophical tradition. For lasting distress, a health professional remains the right person to talk to.
